Growing up I was fortunate enough to attend an amazing performing arts middle school and high school called Dreyfoos School of the Arts. It was a wonderful experience for which I’m constantly grateful. Because of the intimacy of the school, the alumni base is not very large. So when fellow Dreyfoos grads Paula and Ryan approached me about planning their wedding, I jumped at the chance.
Ryan loves his childhood home and his dream was to have an elegant backyard wedding. A backyard wedding is a great way to meld the past with the future plus Ryan’s home had a stunning lake view. It made it almost impossible for Paula to say no!
The ceremony took place under the flowing fronds of a palm tree and was officiated by Paula’s Grandfather. He was charismatic and offered translation to some of Paula’s family who only spoke Spanish. Another lovely gesture of the wedding was that Paula’s 102 year old great-grandmother served as their flower girl. She had an absolute blast and couldn’t wipe the smile from her face.
A stunning white tent was erected in the yard to serve as the reception space. With bistro lights delicately strung from the ceiling, a romantic glow was cast across the tent. A wooden box filled with lush cream roses, queen’s ann lace, cream spray roses, white alstromerias, orange spray roses, purple veronica, white fillers and greenery adorned the guest tables.
The highlight of reception was the Pie Dessert Display. Ryan is a computer engineer and loves numbers, so it wasn’t any surprise when he suggested the wedding date take place on Pi Day (3.14.15). As an homage to that date, they opted to offer pie instead of traditional wedding cake. They even had a countdown to 9:26pm to make the guests aware of the Pi Day significance. It was truly a fun night.
